Submission Guidelines
AKA supports the creation and development of artist driven initiatives and emerging practices that speak to, reflect and encourage dialogue in our culturally diverse communities. This includes work in all media by local, national and international artists. Our venues consist of a street-level gallery, billboard and multi-use screening and performance event space; we also source off-site locations for site-specific projects.
AKA accepts submissions on an ongoing basis for project/exhibition proposals that consider AKA’s history and setting.
Support for selected projects/exhibitions includes: curatorial assistance, shipping, insurance, installation/strike assistance, promotion, documentation and the potential development of accompanying programming suited to the form of the project. AKA pays artist fees at or (when possible) above the CARFAC national average.

Billboard
AKA shares a programmable billboard with PAVED Arts. The submission process for the billboard is ongoing.
Since AKA and PAVED arts moved into a shared facility at 424 20th Street West in the neighbourhood of Riversdale, Saskatoon we have individually programmed numerous projects with artists such as Jo-Anne Balcaen & Jillian McDonald, Martin Beauregard, Cathy Busby, Stephanie Chabot, Joi T. Arcand, Mary Longman and many others. This shared billboard space faces one of the busiest corridors in Saskatoon at the scale of 50 feet wide by 14 feet high. The space includes a steel grated catwalk and fence, on which we have also mounted independent performances. View past programmed billboards here.
Annually, AKA programs an average of two to three billboards per year which occasionally coincide with exhibitions in our main gallery space. The billboard is 15.3 x 4.3m / 50′ x 14′ . Further details will be provided upon billboard project offer.
Event Space
In light of the on going COVID19 concerns, we are not accepting any event space bookings at this time.
The shared AKA/PAVED Event Space can be rented by members and/or non-profit organizations for events, workshops, meetings etc. AKA often partners with groups in need of a space by donating use of the facilities in kind. In the past the space has been used for fundraisers, music nights, launches, screenings, performances, plays, readings, workshops, artist talks and it is often the site of Sounds Like Audio Art Festival. The space is also available to those with production and technical needs through PAVED arts. Download the eventspacetechrider for information on our equipment.
