Make Your Own Camera
October 1, 2017 10:30pm
Sean Arden and Erin Siddall
Culture Days workshop
Artists Erin Siddall and Sean Arden will show participants how to create their own pinhole camera. The workshop is hosted by AKA artist-run in conjunction with the artists’ project Missaskatoomina View, an enterable, site-specific camera obscura located temporarily within a freight container near Riverlanding. A camera obscura installation is in essence a huge pinhole camera.
During the workshop, participants will learn the science and art of pinhole photography and classic darkroom processes. Cameras will be constructed using existing templates on cardstock or sourced recycled materials, with hand-made apertures. Workshop participants will take a photo walk together into the surrounding neighborhood to create their unique images. After making their exposures, participants will return together to the darkroom to develop the images as guided by Technician Barb Reimer. Time will be spent evaluating the exposure and critiquing the results.
