This is the new blog of Sasipenita, an organization that we at AKA know about through Felicia Gay, whom some of you may remember from her insightful and incisive curatorial project Othered Women.

Here’s their statement :

Our goal as an organisation is to see Artists and Cultural Workers create and promote critically engaging arts programming that will positively influence the perceptions and beliefs about the contributions and experiences of First Nations and Métis peoples. As an art based organisation that operates without a gallery space we endeavour to mediate our programming to other like-minded groups such as public galleries, artist-run-centres, community arts groups, schools, etc.  It is our desire to demonstrate our support to visual, performance, inter-disciplinary, multi-media and new media artists, and cultural workers by providing the payment of professional artist fees and promoting the work of emerging, mid-career and established artists. Sasipenita Educational Exhibit Inc. or SEE seeks to assist the Aboriginal community by promoting the arts, providing programs, resources and professional support to emerging, mid-career and established artists. Both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people will benefit educationally from the issues brought forward by our programs that raise awareness of Aboriginal contemporary culture and history.
