Vote Now! October 10 to October 18, 2017
CHEP Good Food Inc and AKA joint Press Release

We need your support:
Vote now for our Mobile Food Market!

CHEP Good Food Inc. had been delivering fresh and nutritious food to families and residents in the core-area neighbourhoods of Saskatoon since 1989, and has just submitted an application through the Aviva Community Fundto create a Mobile Food Market. Imagine a bus stocked with low-priced, fresh groceries traveling to local neighbourhoods, enabling access to low-income residents, those who have limited mobility and limited access to transportation. A mobile market has been the solution for creating access to fresh food within food deserts in cities like Halifax (NS) and Toronto (ON).

CHEP has partnered with AKA, a Riversdale non-profit artist-run centre, through Locals Only, a large-scale multi-year art project that explores food security, community-led resource development, and intergenerational exchange in Saskatoon’s core neighbourhoods. Locals Only has secured funding from the Canada Council for the Arts New Chapter Initiative to support 2 years of arts programming for the Mobile Market. Together CHEP and AKA are now seeking the funds necessary to make the community dream come true. We need your support!

Reports have consistently indicated the core-neighbourhood areas of the city as ‘food deserts’, meaning that residents experience multiple barriers in accessing healthy and affordable foods. CHEP and AKA understand that access to food and participation in the cultural life of a city are human rights and a critical aspect of a healthy community. We are committed to expand and improve our existing programming in consultation with residents and stakeholders.

Anybody can register and vote for our project! You will have 18 votes to cast altogether. The voting period is between October 10th and 18thVOTE NOW HERE.
