AKA is thrilled to announce Lisa Birke‘s Semiotics of the {Postfeminist} Kitchen (after Martha Rosler) as their contributing project to Sounds Like 2014.  Almost 40 years after Rosler’s seminal and morose Semiotics of the Kitchen (1975), in which kitchen implements are subverted through an alphabetized sequence of physical gestures, Semiotics of the {Postfeminist} Kitchen explores how our view of woman—high heels still firmly planted in the kitchen—has evolved.  In the realization of Birke’s performance at AKA, we are seeking the temporary loan of a list of items which the artist will use during her performance between July 21 to 26, 2014.

Each item will be used for its intended function.  Anyone interested in assisting with the performance by donating or loaning any item(s) should email Tarin Hughes at director@akaartistrun.com.  Check back for a full Sounds Like 2014 line-up in May.
