Region focuses on painters who make work in this place, about this place, with nods to history both popular and previously ignored. The three artists in Region speak to different aspects of painting in Saskatchewan, encompassing landscape, portraiture, and abstraction, refigured through a contemporary focus, with both reverence and a sense of irony and humour.

Cheryl Buckmaster is a Saskatchewan based artist who studied at Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in Vancouver, B.C. She exhibits regularly and is represented by The Darrell Bell Gallery in Saskatoon. Buckmaster’s work can be found in collections throughout Canada and the United States. Cheryl believes strongly in the importance of individual and cultural identity. In the past decade she has connected with Saskatoon’s inner city communities as founder/manager of Bluemoon Artists’ Studio, by operating a Therapeutic Home for youth involved in the young offenders system, and as an art instructor/mentor. Today Cheryl continues to paint at her studio in Saskatoon and instructs life drawing classes at Redhouse Collage of Animation.
Currently residing in Moose Jaw, Jennifer McRorie holds a MFA degree from the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand and a BFA from the University of Regina. Her work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in Canada and New Zealand, at galleries including the Dunlop Art Gallery, Mackenzie Art Gallery, Art Gallery of Regina, Neutral Ground Artist-Run Centre, Art Gallery of Prince Albert, University of Lethbridge Art Gallery, Centre of Contemporary Art (NZ), and the National Gallery of Saskatchewan. Her work is included in the public collections of the Saskatchewan Arts Board and the City of Regina and has won Saskatchewan Arts Board grant awards.Her work often engages issues of body politics, memory, identity, mortality, abjection and nature.
Ian Rawlinson has exhibited across Saskatchewan and beyond, with paintings that speak about place and our interpretation of the same. A graduate of the University of Saskatchewan, his more notable exhibitions have been Night Watch (Mendel Art Gallery), Night and Day (Agnes Bugera Gallery), and Silent Nights of Wonder (Darrell Bell Gallery). He has also done residencies in Vermont Studio Centre and Emma Lake, SK.
