New! 2017 Traveling Mentor-in-Residence
Heather Benning
Saskatoon date:  June 23 at AKA/ Paved Arts

This new pilot is a supplement to CARFAC SASK’s annual Mentor in Residence program. Through this initative, CARFAC SASK aims to: provide an advanced mentorship opportunity for emerging artists; enhance the confidence of artists who may be new to studio critiques; and support professional artists working in rural areas. This program is free to CARFAC members and $35 to non-members.

Each participant receives a private critique (1 hour in length) to support and strengthen their practice. If the number of applicants exceeds available spaces, the selection will be juried with the participation of the Travelling Mentor in Residence. Mentorship opportunities will be held in Regina (June 15), Swift Current (June 17), Saskatoon (June 23), and North Battleford (June 24).

Heather Benning currently lives and works in rural Saskatchewan. She completed a bachelor of fine arts degree from Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 2004, and a master of sculpture at Edinburgh College of Art in 2009. Between her degrees, Benning returned to Saskatchewan, where she completed several large-scale, site-specific installations. She has had numerous solo and group shows throughout Canada (Nova Scotia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, Ontario) and abroad (United States, Spain, Germany, Scotland, England and France). Heather’s work has been reviewed in Canadian Art magazine (Spring 2005, 2011), Sculpture magazine (Spring 2008), Galleries West (2009), Espace (Winter 2009/2010), Uppercase Magazine (Issue 8), and Studio Magazine.
